Financial Freedom - Howard Hughes

Many must have seen the movie "The Aviator" starring Leonardo De Caprio as Howard Hughes. I enjoyed watching this movie and decided to have it in my financialfreedom101 blogspot.

Howard Hughes was born with a silver spoon. After inheriting 75% of his late father's multi billion fortune, he soon dropped out from Rice University, married and moved from Houston to Hollywood hoping to make a name for himself making movies.

Hughes's move is right.. He produced quite a number of success movies like Everybody's Acting and Hell's Angels . He had spent a then-unheard-of $3.8 million of his own money on Hell's Angels.

Hughes was also into aviation. He set many world records which he designed and built several aircraft himself. Hughes ownership and plans of TWA had a clash with Pan Am on international air travel.

Unfortunately, Hughes suffered obsessive-compulsive disorder.."he was obsessed with the size of peas—one of his favorite foods—and used a special fork to sort them by size before he ate. While producing The Outlaw, Hughes became obsessed by a minor flaw in one of Jane Russell's blouses, claiming that the fabric bunched up along a seam and gave the appearance of two nipples on each of Russell's breasts. He was reportedly so concerned by the matter as to write a detailed memorandum to the film crew on how to fix the problem." Source from

Hughes died on April 5 1976. Although many percieved him as a "weirdo", but his contributions had helped the entertainment and aviation industries soar to a greater height.
