Durin the Standard First Aid course, our instructor has imparted these 2 important knowledge which I think can be applied when there's emergency. Therefore, I decided to write it in my blog to remind myself.

What is the purpose of having numbers on all lamposts islandwide?

It is meant for paramedics' easy identification to arrive swiftly on where the accident occured. Simply inform them the name of district followed by the numbers.

This may not be seen in S'pore. But according to my instructor, using Kotex as an aid in controlling bleeding is quite a common site in the West. Kotex is used as it's not only clean and most importantly able to prevent blood contact either with the rescuer or victim.

Yesterday night, I got togther with some of my good old pals and chill out at Harry's Restaurant(Dempsey Hill). The place was pretty relax and it was quite an excellent spot for chit chatting. Cost of the meal was affordable too. I ordered fish chip meal which was only about $14 ++. Overall, it was great.

It was once again our company event of the year and this time round, we celebrated at Cuba Libre, which is locate at Clarke Quay.(Known for it's Cuba bar cum restaurant which served latin stuff) First, I had a Classic Mojito before feasting myself with the buffet. My favourite dish was Tortilla as it was spicy and taste just like pizza. The only thing that I regretted for not trying was their cigars.

Nice experience for me to end the year 2008.

Trip To Bottle Tree Village

1st Dec- During the evening, my family and I went for dinner at Bottle Tree Village along Sembawang area. As this place was pretty remote, so a form of transportation would be preferred in order to drive along the small stretch of road. The area was quite cosy with the open sea facing opposite from our dinner table.

Chill Out At One Rochester

One Rochester was quite an experience for me. Firstly, I didn't know there's this area existed in Singapore. Also, it's quite a different concept compare to Dempsey(That was 3 years back, not sure if there's any changes to it ). The ambience was fine, but felt disappointed as the Balcony room was not opened to the public. I think my friends weren't really enjoyed as much as I do.

Also to note, the waiting time on the ordered dishes were too long. We waited about 45 mins before our meals were served.

Motorshow 2008

Arrived at 5.30pm - Rushed off from work to watch the Motorshow 2008 at Suntec. Went to the exhibiton hall, took some great pics on the automobiles and not forgetting the showgirls as well.

During the evening, I managed to catch a glimpse of the F1 racing cars practising on their race course. It's totally awesome!!

She is one of my favorite showgirls

Wakeboarding Experience At Punggol

Last Saturday, my friends and I went for wakeboarding at Punggol Marina Country Club. We picked up just after 2 tries, probably due to some skateboarding experience during our secondary school days. Punggol Marina was a preferred choice because of the low charges ( 1hr - $100..suitable between 3 to 5 persons for a small boat ), whereas Kallang is charging 1hr-$120. East Coast was our last choice - We wouldn't want anyone to see how we wakeboard, feels kind of awkward.

I guess it's up to each and individual whether to believe in miracle existence. Today, was my driving test in Ubi. My mum, a firm believer in God kept reminding me to pray before the test. Since it wasn't smooth sailing for me in my first attempt, I heed her advise.

Some people say 80% comes from hardwork whereas the rest from luck. It goes the same for driving. If one has the skill but met with a tough instructor, chances of passing might be of a problem. You can call it coincidence or miracle, my prayer was heard. My tester was a MR NICE GUY....

Today, I met this lady who is so passionate about caring for cats that she gave up her high pay job and setup her own pet business. As this industry is getting popular in Singapore, many entrepreneurs care only about making high profit margins either by hiring staffs with little experience or charging high rates on pets' lodging. This became a problem to me as I had wanted to find a suitable yet affordable home for this abandon cat to stay. The 30 mins ride on the Singapore flyer isn't really that fantastic. In fact, there's danger impose especially to the elderly because the flyer do not halt. Passengers have to walk briskly in order to board the cable. The surrounding was very dark and I've heard from news that one is able to view parts of Indonesia and Malaysia, unfortunately, I'm unable to see it. Initially everyone was busy adjusting their camera to non-flash and taking pictures from many angles, but soon died down, probably the ride was too slow and there wasn't much scenery worth taking.

Camp Comedy At St James 27th March 08

This is my first time watching a "Live" comedy show at St James. It started at eight and lasted about an hour 45mins. The two comedians, Kumar and Ali Wong were our stand-up performers for the night. On the whole, I enjoyed their performance especially Kumar. With his "Singaporean" accent and the recent news of Mas Selamat, politics and races etc, it's definitely worth coming to listen.

Two days ago, a good friend of mine took me to smoke Sheesha in Nasrin Restaurant, located at 12 Baghdad Street, Arab street. This is definately one of the restaurants I would recommend as the service is great. The food was not only delicious and it was pretty cheap too. I had Kuftah, a cup of mint tea plus some fries to go along. It was real full. We had our tobacco pipes while waiting for our meals to be served.

Interesting to note that the difference between Sheesha and cigarette is that it doesn't choke. There are many flavours to choose from. All you need is the burning charcoal, place on the tip and suck from the pipe. If the flavour becomes too heavy, simply exhale into the pipe till the chimney (illustrated below) produced little smoke. It lasted slightly over an hour and price is only $12.00!

I went to one of the local bookstore and purchased some assessment books to improve my written English. Browse through quite a number of books before the final purchase. Looks like I have to start from primary school learning the basics like grammar, vocabulary and nouns etc.

I used to be in telesales line selling Asian Wall Street Journal ( Now it's call Wall Street Journal Asia). My manager, Edmund taught us the various methods of rebuttals and techniques which I found it pretty useful. Of course, there are those who slam down the phone straight after hearing unfamiliar voices, but majority of the people are willing to hold on what you are going to say for the first 5-10 seconds. Rebuttals can be picked up easily by adding some logics to it, but the real art of selling is to know how to control the situation by rebuttals and asking straight to the heart questions. In this clip, initially is the telemarketer that seize control of the situation, shortly Seinfield took over. You can try this when a telemarketer calls you. Excellent rebuttal by Seinfield! Job Well Done For The National Vertical Marathon 2008

Woke up 4.40 am to prepare myself for the National Vertical Marathon held at Republic Plaza. (Paid $20 registration fee and participate under Men Open) As usual, while alighting at one of Orchard's bus stop to catch the MRT, caught hold of many sights of drunkard people either roaming or sleeping along the quiet streets in town..Hmm, this reminds me of organizing another drinking session with my friends soon. Anyway, I quickly got into the train and reached Raffles MRT station at about 6.15 am. Went straight to the registration counter to collect my tag and did some warming up before the race started.

Everyone was moving at a fast pace till the 15th floor. This was when fatigue came in. I started from hoping two steps to 1 step at a time. Refreshments were available on every alternate levels. Some of the urshers cheered each an every individual participants and it helped a lot especially if there were like 35 stories left before reaching the top.

I heaved a sigh of relief after reaching the 60th floor, which was the top of the plaza. Drank some water before taking the lift back to the first floor. Moments later, I went over to one of the counters to collect my goodie bag. That's not all, the organizer has also came up with games, free photo booth and free gifts to attract participants to join in.

I enjoyed myself not only able to complete the 1380 steps but also on how well the staff have organized this event. Everything was in order from registering to the finishing point. Urshers and staffs were available at all locations. It was a great job done!

Unfortunately, this might be the first and last time participating in vertical marathon as this sport does put on certain pressure and strain to my knee cap...Sigh..

If I'm A Jumper For One Day

Went to watch the show, Jumper with couple of friends. Not much of a plot. The main character, David at age 15, discovered his "jumper" skill when fell through the ice covering on a river and ended up lying on the school library. From there, the first thing that came through David's mind was to leave his abusive father and "jumped" straight to the bank to borrow some money for a living. David's eight years of luxurious life came to an end when Roland Cox started hunting jumpers down and he was no exception. There were several scenes from countries like Eygpt, London, Tokyo, Rome and United States where he "jumped" and was being chased.

I feel that David should pay more attention to class especially geography as his "jumped" only limited to these few countries. To answer my question if I'm a jumper for one day, the first thing would be to "borrow" some money from the bank. Show off my skills to the ladies and bring along my gears before jumping to Maldives, Mount Everest, Tibet mountains, Grand Canyon, Melbourne 12 Apostles. Think now it left only 9 due to erosion. Ferrari, Porsche? Well, I'm not really into automobiles, besides it pollutes the environment, so it's a no-no for me. Scenes in the show where I would also agreed to " jumped" : surf on the biggest wave, sunbathing at the top of the statue in Eygpt.

The Airshow Reminds Me Of The Unsung Heroes

The recent airshow reminds me of my national service in the Air Force back on the year 2001. If I remembered correctly, 5 of us (national service technicians) and 1 senior specialist were in charge of pumping the red dye on all the A4 aircrafts (Black Knight) during national day. It was real hard work. We had to wear a pair of googles and gloves, "butcher coat" , oxygen mask and pulled our overall sleeves to hand level , mixing and pumping the dye under the scorching hot sun. My friends and I used to laugh and called out "butcher at work" at one another as our gears were covered with "fresh red blood". I remembered how worried everyone were, especially my senior specialist, whether the dye was able to diffuse visibly on the actual day itself! I got a sigh of relief when my parents called and told me that the dye was indeed very very red..hahaha

It was bit disappointed as the focus were belong to the pilots. As for our rewards, a few days off from work.

I hereby would like to send my respect to the backstage people who are either mixing the dyes on the airshow or the coming national day, Good job guys!

I'm impressed with this particular plumber and decided to write about his creative solution in my blog.

There was a major water pipe leakage in my bathroom, so I logged onto the net and checked for plumbing services. The feedback I received during the call was that there would be an extra charge of $10 for home inspection. Only this plumber, which sensed my dismay, suggested having it snapped and send via email. This way, he need not have to waste time travelling and at the same time, able to help customers saved money.

Yesterday morning, went to Tessensohn Civil Service Club to attend the 1 day Sports Climbing Course Level 1. The registeration fee was $50 and a total of about 12 people had turned up for this event. At 10.23, we proceeded our way to a small classroom where we learnt the use of correct harness usage, figure of 8 knot, different types of walls, maintenance of equipments...

Climbing Course Level 1 are only eligible for Top-rope climbing. Climbers will need to tie the figure of 8 knot to the harness and whereas for the belayer, their job is to protect or cushion the climbers fall. This is done by ensuring the SMF and rope are fasten together with the carabiner.

Everyone did their practices near the indoor wall before heading for lunch. After the break, were we then started our first step on the wall! At that moment, I can felt the Adrenalin pumping from where I started till reaching to the top. Of course, there were negative thinkings which crossed my mind like "what if the rope snaps or what if the knot was loose..the consequences would caused serious injury or even death"...Despite all these, my partner and I continued to move on to reach the top.

I really enjoyed myself and also got to know many new friends as well. At the end of the course, everyone was given a certificate in a wallet size format, booklet and 1 free climb ( expire 3 months). Can't wait to climb again...

The managing director of Network Express stated that in order to cushion off its business cost, which makes several thousands of deliveries per day, they might alter the delivery charges to their customers.

I suggest having part-timers/freelance delivery personnel at every location in Singapore. Priority packages to be send by full-time staff. As for normal packages, part-timers/freelance (who own bicycle/walk or bike/car) are able to do the job. Payment to them can be by per package or by weight. This might save quite a considerable amount on the ERP charges.

Financial Freedom - New Year Countdown 2008 At Dblo

After much discussion between Dblo and Chijmes, we decided to spent our nights in Dblo. Reached our destination about 10+, which was pretty early, got ourselves "chopped" before settling down to order our drinks(Entrance fee Male : $40, Female : $30). Lychee Martini was on 1 for 1 which cost $15 ( price differ if drinks were ordered at dance counter). It was pretty cool with a mixture of both Lychee and heavy Martini taste. Next was the Irish cream followed by 4 Jugs of vodka orange and Bourbon coke.

The countdown was still an enjoyable one . However, the songs that Dblo has broadcasted was some what disappointed. Before the countdown, were songs from the 80-90s , after was trance and hip hop, which was a bored. Frankly speaking, the transition and mixed from one song to another can be futher improved.

Hours later, there were some minor disputes between the crowds which further spoiled the festival moods in Dblo ( Hey people, "Relag Lah", everyone came to enjoy but not having blue blacks at the beginning of 2008). Thanks to the swift securities, were then the situation held under controlled. Also, one major problem during this kind of festive season was hailing for cabs. We waited for 2 hrs+ before reaching home.

All in all, it was not as enjoyable as it used to ..probably, age is catching up. My friends and I are thinking of going overseas to have a " feel" of how other countries celebrate. We are suggesting Korea. So looking forward to 31 Dec 2008

Last night, I laid out a bench and placed outside my house to view meteorite, Geminid in the sky. Some what disappointed as I managed to spot only 2 for about about 1 and half hours. I started watching at 12am - 1.45am before knocked out in bed. In the past, I'm able to catch a good view but not now as the two new bright lamps situated near my area was hindering...sigh.. Finally it's our last day of kayak 1 star course. Today's program was to learn the various methods of rescue for individual and with assistance.

Our first day of learning planned capsized was used when we were required to act as victims. One will be the rescuer and another the assistance. Only the rescuer will sound out instructions to both parties. First step, was to keep close to the victim and ensure he was safe and sound. Next, hand over his/her paddle before letting him/her swim towards the rescuer bow. Assistant was to stay side by side of rescuer and support rescuer by moving the paddles behind him/her and grab both hands along the comb of rescuer's kayak. Rescuers will then adjust the kayak to form a "T" with bow facing him/her and lifted up closed to the cockpit. Jerk upwards twice or thrice, to and fro to allow the water to be released out before flipping back the kayak. Lastly, rescuer has to grab hold two corners of the comb in order for the victim to slide to his/her kayak. A thing to note as victim when entering back in kayak : Lay flat by looking upwards and tuck your legs in the kayak before sliding in.

In the afternoon, our instructor took us to explore around Mac Ritchie. It was a fun and enriching experience especially kayaking in the cool raining weather and mammals like turtles could be found swimming near. The amazing of nature I've seen was when during drizzling, droplets that hit the water became "crystals" or small balls floating along the water.. Its awesome !

First day of my 1 star kayak course which started from 9am to 4pm. Paid $55 for registration fee. Total of 11 people had signed up for the course. In the morning, we learnt some basic theory of a kayak like where is the bow and stern. Also on the various methods of carrying a kayak by 2 or individual persons, how to swim out when kayak was capsize with retention of kayak and paddle , towing the kayak together with the paddle and emptying of water.

On the 1st and 2nd December, went Batam View Resort for jet ski. S$50 for 1/2 hr accompanied by a instructor who will seat behind you. We tried the 1/2 hr ride and its AWESOME !

Start and stop buttons are located at the left handle. A chain is attached between the instructor hand and the knob on the handle. This is to ensure the jet ski came to a halt if the chain is released. Maneuver of the jet ski is very similar to a motorbike. Only difference is there's only a right side "brake" which act as an accelerator. To stop, simply release. As a beginner, I did some practise around the enclosed area before moving to the open sea. Once at open sea, I started pressing harder at the "brake" to gain higher speed. REAL COOL AND SHIOK ! However, all good things always come to a short end as we are caught by an increasing high tide weather. This was quite an experience which the tide was about 3-4 metres high. Its like riding "Viking". Feeling unbalance, I was instructed to return back to the enclosed beach.

Overall, I enjoyed every moment even though its just 1/2 hr ride. Its the speed and freedom that u felt while jet ski.

Weather's cloudy though but our enthusiast in trying out Kayaking didn't dampen our spirit. Got ourselves equipped with life jacket, paddles, lift our rented sit-on-top kayaks and aboard we went. Initially,had some difficulties in controlling the movement of the kayak. With some trials and errors, were we then managed to get the hang of it. Yesterday night, went dining at Takaya Bistro. As its pretty late (about 10 pm), meals were limited, only a total of 7-8 ramens and side dishes choose from. Sushis are't available too. We ordered 2 Tori Teriyaki Ramen(1 for $3.50), 1 bottle of Ume Sake($15.00), 1 Age Gyoza($3.00). Waited for quite a while before our orders were served. The ramen was much more supple and smooth compared from other chain outlets. For those who would like to go for little alcohol content and not so bitter taste, japanese made wine would be a better choice. HSBC holders will enjoy 20% discount off on their ala carte. Last night, my friends and I went for wine tasting at Bukit Batok CSC club. It was a great experience as a beginner learning to appreciate wine. Per person is only $35 for non member. We got to taste these few US premium wines which they are Hestan Cabernet Sauvignon, Hestan Chardonnay and Meyer Cabernet Sauvignon. Our instructor, Jeffrey Soh share with us on the usage of different glasses and also on techniques like munching of bread to clear off the tastes when going for wine tasting. It was real fun when majority of the crowds were dressed up in Halloween party at Zouk. Took a couple of pictures . As this was our first time dressing for this occasion, we were pretty early to prevent from getting stucked in the queue...got ourselves changed and was in the queue at about eight fifteen..At about ten plus, were the "GATES OF HELL" opened for non-singtel subscribers.
The wait was long and humid but our eyes were feasted with strange, funny, fanciful costumes we couldn't imagine of..

Everyone spend majority of their time taking pictures with one another..It was an eye opener and great experience I ever had. Finally able to take a picture together with my favourite idol Jade Seah !

Came across this article from our local newspaper, thought would be interesting to have it posted in this blog. This person known as Mr Ronnie Pang, was the man behind the sex tour business in Singapore. He wanted to make "business out of a hobby".

Mr Pang's business is conducting tour to sex conventions and erotica shows in the US. He market his campaigns by giving out flyers and emails. The trip cost about US$2000-$3500 and there's one rule to be obeyed. That is NO hanky-panky business is allowed.

I feel that this kind of activities should be discouraged. Agreed with this financial advisor who was interviewed by the press on this issue, he stated ".....Even if there are no sexual activities involved, these tours encourage Singaporeans to look at females as sexual objects and that in turn ruins our Asian upbringing."

Almost every articles I've read, successful entrepreneurs and billionaires are either graduated or were given an opportunity to study in prestigious universities (which they rejected)..I felt that these people have a certain calibre as they have made it to these schools, thus their success is not of a surprise.Richard Branson in a way represented us, the " norms" .. He was not the typical school whizz in school. In fact , he was considered the " notorious" type of student. Richard Branson received a note from his headmaster : " Congratulations, Branson. I predict that you will either go to prison or become a millionaire." Dropped out of school when he was 15. Has dyslexic. Dyslexic is someone having difficulty in reading , poor organisation or short-term memory problems. Hate Maths subject.Took him years to work out the difference between net and gross. Been caught by customs.Reason : to avoid taxes ( He used to deliver records in his early days). Spent the night in prison and paid £53,000 as part of an out-of-court settlement to avoid a criminal record. Took about six or seven attempts to obtain his driving license.

Richard Branson guts is most commendable. Action will be done once his ideas is set. I had read books and articles even from friends stating to weigh the potential , calculate the profit and loss before venturing ..blah blah ...and some of them were real proud thinking they are the " prodigy of business " and the sad fact is SORRY, YOU GUYS ARE NOT !

Richard Branson set up business objectives is not so much of money , rather HIS PASSION ! I've worked for several companies in Singapore and sad to say many top management staff focus on money than customers and employees. A slight economy downturn and you might be on the chopping list.
